A few weeks back, I came across some articles and TV programs on Veena Malik who recently participated in a popular Indian reality show called Big Boss. I never watch the program regularly as I don’t like these types of reality shows but whatever I had seen and observed, I have my few personal views on this issue.
Veena Malik has got some real talent especially her being a very good comedian. If you have seen her in “Miss Fit” and “Hum sub umeed sey hain” (HSUSH), she was superb in mimicking and her timing was real good. Her bad time started when she left HSUSH. She had a tough time in her relationship with Mohd Asif (Pakistani Cricketer) and now because of the Big Boss show. When she returned to Pakistan, she defended herself by saying that everyone is criticizing her because she is a woman (the weak gender in our society). She kept on asking: Why don’t people criticize male celebrities who are working in India?
So I thought why not answer her question (I know she won’t read my blog). Have you people ever noticed why people ever criticize women in showbiz like Veena Malik, Meera and years ago Anita Ayub and Komal Rizvi? Why not people criticize, atif aslam, shafaqat amanat ali, strings, sajjad ali, zeba bakhtiar etc. Yes I have included zeba bakhtiar’s name as well. She is a woman who represented Pakistan in India years ago. She had a lead role in famous Indian movie Hina. While she worked there, Pakistan had no media exposure but people still had access to Indian movies. They found nothing to criticize her. She worked with all the dignity and represented Pakistan in the best possible way. Although she had one scandal, she handled it very well. Same goes for all the male celebrities of Pakistan. I have some issues with all those singers who make their videos in India but here we are discussing a different matter.
So that’s the answer for you Veena Malik that people criticize only those people who did something wrong and gave them reason to criticize. I as a common Pakistani girl have no time to target anyone just for nothing. If people see something objectionable, they start this entire fuse.
p.s. Veena should have been careful as she knew our society is not as broad minded as our showbiz people. They can watch Pashto, Urdu, Indian and English movies but can’t tolerate that our celebrities go there (India) and get intimated with their fellow stars.
